SWITZERLAND 2016 – WEDNESDAY

A bit of Swiss retail therapy!

We ventured down to Lake Thun today to check out retail opportunities in Interlaken.

First stop – the chocolate show at the Shuh restaurant in the town centre where our hostess told us all about growing cocoa beans and turning them into the delicious chocolate for which Switzerland is well known.

We sampled lots of different chocs, including a 100% dark chocolate and a 65% dark chocolate. It’s fair to say that most of the Guides preferred the milk and white chocolate.

We watched as our chocolate chef made caramel-filled sweeties and dark chocolate moulds in the shape of high-heeled shoes. Then we each had a chocolate lolly dipped into more chocolate and then decorated with sprinkles and nuts – delicious!

It was a while before anyone felt like eating lunch!

Next we mooched round the shops, buying presents and treats for ourselves, before setting off on a boat trip across Lake Thun to Spiez. Amazing to think that locals use the boat as a water taxi – commuting to and from work in Interlaken.
